Overview
Sovdi Media partnered with Focus Communications to produce a highlight reel for Monteith Construction’s civil infrastructure project in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. Filmed in one of the province’s most remote northern communities, the project required careful planning, cultural awareness, and adaptability to capture both the environment and the evolving construction work.
The Challenge
The project presented several layered challenges:
Remote northern location with limited access and logistics
Variable weather conditions
Active civil construction environment
A need to respectfully represent the surrounding land and community
Telling a story that balanced environmental context with visible construction progress
Monteith’s goal was not simply to document a build, but to reflect their relationship to place before revealing the infrastructure taking shape.
Our Role
Working in collaboration with Focus Communications, we provided on-location video and photography services, including:
Capturing the landscape and community context prior to construction visuals
Filming progression from untouched terrain to an active jobsite
Navigating movement and safety considerations on an operating construction site
Adapting production plans in response to weather and on-site conditions
Our approach prioritized respect for the environment, clear communication on site, and a flexible production process suited to remote work.
