Dakar Rally Sponsorship Video for Kove Canada & Alberta Powersports

Client: Alberta Powersports / Kove Motorcycles Canada
Location: Kootenay Region, British Columbia
Services: Sponsorship Video Production, Interview & Rider Documentation, Aerial/Drone Capture
Timeline: Single-production engagement

Overview

Sovdi Media travelled to British Columbia's Kootenay region to produce a sponsorship video for Alberta Powersports and Kove Motorcycles Canada, supporting rider Jordan Strachan's campaign to compete at the Dakar Rally — the world's most demanding off-road race. The project required capturing not only the rider and the machines, but the spirit behind a genuinely unusual story: a Canadian rider who sold everything he owned to chase a lifelong dream, backed by an emerging motorcycle brand building its reputation through community and performance.

Alberta Powersports is the exclusive Canadian retailer for Kove Motorcycles. Jordan Strachan, a Kove-sponsored rider, had qualified for the Dakar Rally and would go on to finish 67th overall as the only Canadian competitor that year.

The three-way partnership between Kove, Jordan, and Alberta Powersports needed a video asset that anchored a sponsorship pitch and communicated the credibility, determination, and authenticity behind the campaign.

The Challenge

The core challenge was translating an unconventional story into compelling, credible footage under compressed timelines.

Jordan's narrative — selling his possessions to fund a Dakar entry, training on courses he designed himself, maintaining a direct advisory relationship with Kove's CEO — was rich, but required a thoughtful approach to avoid feeling manufactured. The video needed to hold up under scrutiny from international sponsors while staying true to the rider and brand.

Additional constraints included:

  • A remote filming location requiring significant travel

  • Active off-road terrain presented logistical and safety considerations for aerial capture

  • A dual-deliverable scope: one formal sponsorship video, one candid rider review intended for organic distribution for Blake’s YouTube channel, Range Road Moto.

  • Limited production window to capture both riding footage and sit-down interview content

Our Role

Sovdi Media handled full production on location in the Kootenays, coordinating directly with Jordan and the Alberta Powersports team throughout.

Our scope included:

  • On-location filming across Jordan's custom-designed off-road training course

  • Advanced aerial capture of riding sequences across varied terrain

  • Candid, interview-style documentation of Jordan's experience with the Kove platform

  • Post-production of two distinct deliverables: a formal sponsorship video and a rider review video

  • Close collaboration with the client to refine and elevate the narrative direction

Services Provided

Outcomes

The sponsorship video was well received by the audience it was produced for, with the client describing the finished work as exceeding expectations in quality.

Key outcomes included:

  • A polished sponsorship asset supporting Jordan's Dakar Rally campaign

  • A secondary rider review video used for organic audience distribution

  • Strong aerial and riding footage showcasing both the terrain and the Kove machines under real conditions

  • A client relationship built on flexibility, responsiveness, and trust under a compressed timeline

Sovdi Media was a huge help with a last-minute video that we needed done for an international project. Everyone was blown away at the quality of the finished work and I am extremely gratefu for the ease and flexibility Blake had on listening to our ideas and improving them with his experience. I would recommend Blake for any video production needed and hope to work with him again in the near future.
— Josh, Alberta Powersports

Outcome

This project succeeded because the production approach matched the story being told. Jordan's Dakar campaign wasn't a polished marketing narrative — it was a raw, high-stakes personal pursuit backed by a brand that earns trust through authenticity. The footage reflected that.

Our approach prioritized:

  • Listening to the client's vision before imposing creative direction

  • Capturing genuine moments over staged ones

  • Flexibility in the field to respond to terrain, light, and timing

  • Delivering content that served two distinct purposes without compromising either
